Tropical Cyclone Garance made a historic landfall over Réunion Island at approximately 10:00 local time on February 28, 2025, bringing in record winds of over 200 km/h (125 mph) to the region. A Purple Violent Cyclone Alert is in effect for the entire island. According to the prefect of Réunion, "675 people are spread across 128 accommodation centres and 8 in living centres". At 11am local time, more than 82,000 people no longer had access to drinking water and 145,000 customers were without electricity, or 30% of the network's customers, while 12% were without Internet.
