The epicenter was located in the Rasht District, approximately 160 kilometers northeast of the capital, Dushanbe. The tremors were recorded at 9:24 a.m. local time at a depth of about 10 kilometers, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). According to the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of Tajikistan, 17 residential buildings and one school were partially damaged as a result of the quake. No fatalities have been reported so far, though several people sustained minor injuries. The tremors were felt not only in Tajikistan but also in neighboring countries, including Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and northern regions of Afghanistan. In some Afghan border villages, residents reportedly fled their homes in panic, fearing aftershocks. No casualties or damages have been reported on the Afghan side as of yet. In Dushanbe, the tremors reached an intensity of 4 on the local scale. Many residents rushed out of buildings and remained outside until the situation stabilized. Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and have urged the public to exercise caution. Seismologists warn that aftershocks may occur in the coming days.
