Since 2001, the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), managed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), has played a vital role in supporting climate-vulnerable countries to build resilience and adapt to the impacts of climate change. As the only climate adaptation fund dedicated exclusively to LDCs, the LDCF addresses urgent and immediate adaptation needs by supporting countries to implement priorities identified in their National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPAs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), NDCs and related national strategies. UNDP, as one of the GEF's founding Implementing Agencies, has partnered with the LDCF for over two decades to deliver high-impact, country-led adaptation projects that protect lives and livelihoods. To mark this legacy and highlight the instrumental role of the LDCF as a global climate finance fund in laying the foundation for long-term climate resilience in LDCs, UNDP is launching a new global webinar series, the Adaptation and Resilience Dialogues. The series will bring together partners and key stakeholders to showcase case studies from selected countries and foster a dialogue on success factors, challenges and the impact of concerted adaptation financing. The first webinar in the series on October 20 featured two case studies from Asia, on Integrated Water Resource Management and Ecosystem-based Adaptation in the Xe Bang Hieng River Basin and Luang Prabang City in Lao PDR and Enhancing Sustainability and Climate Resilience of Forest and Agricultural Landscapes and Community Livelihoods in Bhutan. Discussions focused on the application of ecosystem-based adaptation and locally led approaches to restore critical ecosystem services, strengthen food and water security and protect livelihoods enhancing the resilience and adaptive capacity of vulnerable communities.
