Al Caiola's Apollonia is a lush guitar led interpretation of Nino Rota's music from The Godfather, named for Apollonia Vitelli, the young Sicilian woman Michael Corleone meets and marries while hiding in Sicily. The melody carries much of the romantic, old world character associated with that part of the film, but also has an unmistakable melancholy given Apollonia's fate. Caiola's version places his guitar at the center of Rota's theme, giving it a more intimate popular instrumental treatment than the original film score. Al Caiola was already particularly well suited to this kind of material. The Italian American guitarist and arranger had become known for instrumental interpretations of movie and television themes, including hits with The Magnificent Seven and Bonanza. His playing crossed jazz, pop and easy listening, often presenting cinematic melodies through a distinctive lead guitar sound. Apollonia appeared on Caiola's 1972 album Music From The Godfather, an entire collection devoted to music associated with Francis Ford Coppola's film. The album also includes The Godfather Waltz, Michael's Theme, The Pickup, The Baptism and the famous Love Theme. Apollonia was composed by Nino Rota, arranged and conducted by Al Caiola and produced by Ethel Gabriel. 🎵 Listen to more from Al Caiola on their official music streaming sites: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1jYK37yQbm-VEYlXqw9U5w https://open.spotify.com/artist/1kiuYnpzdoWeSpdHObdhQ6 https://music.apple.com/us/artist/al-caiola/714669 🎨 Artwork by Francesco Lojacono 👍 If you like this type of music and you want to support the channel grow, using the Like and Share buttons are great ways to help out. 🔔 Please subscribe to TSOM for more: https://www.youtube.com/@TheSpiritOfOrchestralMusic?sub_confirmation=1 ➤ Follow TSOM on our official social and music streaming platforms: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/TheSpiritOfOrchestralMusic Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/user/31xg2433be5vgodlzsx2u4ylhdz4 Thank you very much for watching! #AlCaiola #Apollonia #TheGodfather #NinoRota #InstrumentalMusic #TheSpiritOfOrchestralMusic
