When the London mayor announced the expansion of ULEZ (ultra low emission zone) in 2023, it proved highly unpopular with many Londoners and councils. But a new study shows that London boroughs which opposed the expansion have seen the largest reductions in a harmful air pollutants because of the policy. Sir Sadiq Khan, has said the study shows that "the ultra low emission zone works" and "has lead to substantial improvements to air quality in London".
