Beaumont Animal Care has seized 32 dogs from a suspected fighting and breeding operation in Beaumont’s North End, following a disturbing discovery that left animal welfare officers and the community shaken.

The case began when Officer Brooklin Moore responded to a report of potential hoarding and dog fighting at a property located on Pine Street. When she arrived, she found multiple dogs tied to heavy chains without adequate shelter, a violation of Texas law. The property owner, who returned during the investigation, admitted to breeding and selling dogs. One dog, found in extremely poor health, was surrendered on the spot.
Initially, the owner was given a week to correct the violations. However, conditions failed to improve and, according to Moore, “It was almost like conditions got worse.” This led officers to obtain a seizure warrant, which was executed on September 30.

The operation resulted in the removal of 32 dogs in total—20 puppies under one year old and 12 adult dogs. Four dogs required immediate veterinary evaluation for injuries consistent with fighting and neglect. One of them needed a drainage tube placed in its neck. Investigators also uncovered equipment often linked to organized dog fighting, including weighted collars, treadmills, and injectable antibiotics.
The seizure has placed additional strain on Beaumont Animal Care, which was already overcrowded with 117 animals in its care. Adoption coordinator Viviana Lopez emphasized the urgent need for community support: “We really need a lot of adopters, fosters and rescues to help us out and place animals.”

A seizure hearing is scheduled for October 7 in Justice of the Peace Ben Collins’ court, where a decision will be made about the permanent custody of the dogs. Until then, they remain in the care of Beaumont Animal Care. Officials encourage anyone with information about suspected dog fighting to come forward, either directly or through Crime Stoppers at (409) 833-TIPS.
