Firefighters successfully controlled a fire at a vacant two-story fourplex on Hillside Dr. early this morning in the Del Rosa neighborhood of San Bernardino. With smoke and flames visible through the roof and creating a potential collapse hazard, first-arriving crews assumed a defensive attack around the boarded-up structure, using hand lines and then elevated master streams to fight the blaze. This response prevented spread to the vegetation at the base of Perris Hill and to neighboring homes.
