What is the name of your lodge, and since when has your lodge been operating?

Pumula Lodge 4 Star Guesthouse Knysna, South Africa.  Since 1997.

How best to travel to your lodge?

Private vehicle/self-drive

What kind of services does your lodge offer to visiting birders?

We are situated close to a number of birding spots such as Woodbourne Bird Sanctuary (10min drive), Knysna Heads (15min drive) and others. We can arrange guides.  We do have a nectar feeder.

Note: Pumula Lodge offers Room-Only rates (no breakfast). There are several lovely breakfast and brunch spots close by to choose from. The rooms are equipped with a bar fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, cutlery, crockery, and a tea tray. The wash-up facility is located in the communal kitchenette.

What makes your lodge special?

Large parkland garden, surrounded by trees. Can’t see the neighbours.  Wonderful bird life.

  • Knysna Turaco
  • Fork-Tailed Drongo
  • Green Wood-Hoopoe
  • Cape Robin-Chat
  • Olive Thrush
  • Olive Woodpecker
  • Knysna Woodpecker

  • Starlings
  • Doves.
  • Raptors, including Long-Crested Eagle, Black Sparrow-Hawk, African Fish Eagle, African Harrier-Hawk

What is the best time to visit your lodge, and why? Spring into early summer when migrating birds arrive. 

Most species are highly vocal going into breeding season.  The rest of the year is also very good
