Chantal has weakened into a tropical depression after making landfall at 4:00am near Litchfield Beach, South Carolina this morning.

The system is responsible for producing at least three tornadoes and has prompted flash floods across portions of North Carolina tonight (specifically impacting communities between Greensboro and Raleigh).

This is the third named storm of our 2025 season and comes nearly a month ahead of schedule.

There are no new named storms expected to form within the next week in the Atlantic.
