Typhoon Saudel has brought torrential rain and widespread flooding to Fujian Province in China. Putian and Xianyou County have been among the hardest-hit areas, with streets and roads inundated by rapidly rising water. The Mulanxi River in Putian has recorded the first numbered flood of 2026. Water levels in 16 rivers across 11 counties have risen above warning levels, while three rivers have exceeded guaranteed safety levels. Extreme rainfall has been recorded across the province, with some weather stations measuring up to 496.6 millimeters in 24 hours. More than 350 townships received over 50 millimeters of rain, while 22 townships recorded more than 250 millimeters. The neighboring city of Fuding was also hit by torrential rain, with 127 millimeters falling in just one hour. The intense rainfall sent floodwaters rushing through streets and caused flooding in low-lying areas. Flooding and mud have also disrupted roads and affected infrastructure, including parts of the water supply system.
