A powerful thunderstorm with giant hail struck China’s Guangdong Province, causing significant destruction. The megacity of Guangzhou was hit the hardest, as the storm raged for over an hour. Hailstones reached the size of chicken eggs, damaging numerous vehicles on city streets. Drivers were unable to shelter their cars in time, and their windows were completely shattered. Strong winds and icy precipitation also broke windows in residential and administrative buildings. In some areas, power outages were reported due to downed power lines. Aid is being provided to those affected.
