Texas Couple Devastated After Both French Bulldogs Purchased From Pet Store Die Within Months

A couple in The Woodlands, Texas, is speaking out after experiencing heartbreaking losses that they say could have been prevented. Felicia Luna and Eric Ramirez purchased a pair of French Bulldog puppies—a brother and sister—from Pet Fair at The Woodlands Mall on February 11. The purchase price was nearly $9,000, a major financial investment that the couple believed would bring years of companionship and joy. Instead, within just four months, both puppies were gone.

According to Luna and Ramirez, the dogs were already being treated for respiratory infections at the time of purchase. The couple visited the pet store daily to receive the prescribed medication before finally taking the puppies home. At first, the illness seemed minor, but it quickly became clear that the puppies were struggling more than expected.

“It was after the second visit to our own vet, we learned the antibiotics weren’t taking effect as quickly as expected,” Ramirez recalled. Despite continued treatment, the puppies’ health spiraled. Just three weeks after bringing them home, the female puppy, Margo, died. “We watched her suffer. We watched her having trouble breathing on a daily basis,” Luna said, describing the helplessness of watching her young dog fade.

The second puppy initially seemed stronger, but weeks later, he too succumbed to severe respiratory complications. In less than four months, both siblings were gone. Their veterinarian confirmed that both deaths were tied to ongoing respiratory illness.

The emotional toll has been overwhelming for the couple. Beyond their grief, Luna and Ramirez were left with no financial or legal recourse. Because they purchased the dogs with cash, the sale was considered “as is,” leaving them without protections once the puppies became gravely ill. “We felt powerless,” Luna admitted, noting that the joy they anticipated was replaced with heartbreak and frustration.

Seeking accountability, Luna reached out to the pet store, but said her calls to the manager went unanswered. When FOX 26 reporters contacted Pet Fair, the store initially denied having any record of the sale. Only after being shown receipts and supporting documents did they acknowledge the transaction, though they provided no additional comment.

Now, Luna and Ramirez are sharing their story as a warning to other families who may consider purchasing pets without fully investigating their health history. The ordeal underscores the risks tied to commercial pet sales, especially when animals are sold with preexisting conditions. Advocates emphasize the importance of asking for veterinary records, seeking health guarantees, and considering adoption from shelters or reputable breeders to avoid similar tragedies.

For Luna and Ramirez, the loss of their French Bulldogs remains deeply painful. What was meant to be the beginning of a joyful new chapter became a cautionary tale about trust, transparency, and the urgent need for accountability in the pet sales industry.
