One victim was found under a tree uprooted by winds reaching speeds of up to 230 km/h (143 mph). The other victims—two women and a man—died due to flooding, a landslide, and an electrical fire. The storm left more than 180,000 people without electricity and over 170,000 without water. On Friday, the cyclone caused significant damage to the island, which has a population of around 900,000. The international airport in Réunion was scheduled to reopen on Saturday evening. The neighboring island of Mauritius had already suspended airport operations on Wednesday, while Réunion halted flights on Thursday. Authorities continue to address the aftermath of the storm. Rescue services are working to restore infrastructure and assist those affected. Meteorologists warn that the cyclone’s impact may still be felt for several more days.
