TAMPA, Fla. — A two-alarm fire engulfed several vehicles in the parking garage of the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay on Monday afternoon, sending smoke spewing into the city sky, Tampa Fire Rescue reported.

Firefighters were summoned to the garage at 2900 Bayport Drive at 12:50 p.m.

“Upon arrival, crews encountered a heavy column of black smoke and upgraded the response to a second alarm,” Tampa Fire Rescue said in a news release. “Firefighters found multiple vehicles involved in a fire on the second floor inside the garage.”

Fire crews brought the blaze under control within an hour and contained it to the second floor of the parking garage. The hotel did not need to be evacuated, fire officials said.

“Preliminary reports indicate approximately 10 vehicles sustained significant damage,” the news release states.
