On Friday night, a strong magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Hawaii's Big Island. This was energetic enough to be felt on all of Hawaii's 8 main islands, and even generated a few small landslides close to its epicenter on the Big Island. Yet, this earthquake did not occur in the crust but instead in the upper mantle. Today's video explains why the May 22nd 2026 quake occurred through the knowledge and analysis of a geologist.
