An investigation has found decades of abuse of thousands of young men by staff at a detention centre in County Durham was “ignored and dismissed” by the prison service, police and the Home Office. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has issued a report into how physical and sexual violence was allowed to continue at the Medomsley Detention Centre from 1961 to 1987.
