Simmie Berman, Dragonfly Thermal-Mechanical Subsystem Lead at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), explains how Dragonfly stays warm using heat from its power source and about 850 hand-installed foam insulation tiles. As the spacecraft continues integration and testing, engineers are preparing it for environmental testing inside APL's custom-built Titan Chamber, designed to recreate the extreme conditions on Saturn's largest moon. Dragonfly is a NASA mission designed and built at Johns Hopkins APL that will explore Titan in search of the chemical building blocks that could help scientists better understand the origins of life.
