Hawaii's Kilauea volcano just produced a record setting eruption, specifically on June 1st 2026. This eruption involved up to 656 foot high sustained lava fountains, and caused some tephra and ash to fall on specific nearby areas. The eruption was record setting because it represented Kilauea's 48th lava fountaining episode, surpassing a threshold of 47 episodes a Kilauea eruption produced from 1983 to 1986.
