RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. — A CAL FIRE/Riverside County firefighter died after suffering a medical emergency during a house fire in Perris, according to CAL FIRE.

In a social media post, the department identified the firefighter as Fire Apparatus Engineer Daniel “Danny” Cook.

The fire was reported around 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 31 in the 31300 block of Marcuchio Road, NBC Los Angeles reported. CAL FIRE said the medical emergency was not related to the fire.

Firefighters found a garage fully engulfed on arrival. A man and a woman with minor injuries were taken to a hospital.

CBS Los Angeles reported that a procession for the firefighter would be held later in the day in Moreno Valley.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
