The 11-year FDNY veteran suffered cardiac arrest while operating on the roof during an all-hands fire

November 09, 2025 07:31 AM •

NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker announced the line-of-duty death of Firefighter Patrick D. Brady, 42, an 11-year veteran of the department.

Brady suffered a medical episode and went into cardiac arrest while operating on the roof during an all-hands fire at 9407 Kings Highway in Brooklyn on Nov. 8, the department said in a statement.

Firefighters and FDNY EMS provided immediate care before he was transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. An investigation into the incident is underway.

“The entire FDNY is heartbroken over the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady. Firefighter Brady was a dedicated public servant and firefighting was in his blood,” Tucker said. “We are thinking of his family, friends and fellow members as we join them in mourning this immense loss.”

Brady joined the FDNY on July 14, 2014. After graduating from the Fire Academy, he was assigned to Engine 227 in Brooklyn and transferred to Ladder 120 in 2022. A Queens resident, he is survived by his wife, Kara, and two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, both FDNY firefighters, as well as several cousins and uncles who also serve with the department.

Mayor Karen Bass called reports that crews were told to leave the Jan. 1 Lachman fire scene “tremendously alarming” and directed interim Chief Ronnie Villanueva to launch a full review
