Krakatau, the infamous volcano, just produced its largest explosive eruption since 1883. And this caused the cancellation of hundreds of flights, generated a massive eruption plume, and caused ash to fall across a wide area. Yet, how large is this eruption, and why might it have occurred? Today's video will attempt to answer these questions through the knowledge & analysis of a geologist. Note: This video's thumbnail image displays a 2018 eruption plume at Kilauea. I am using it to represent Krakatau's September 2026 eruption.
