HULL, Mass. — The Hull Fire Department responded to a 2-alarm fire Tuesday afternoon, narrowly avoiding injuries while taking down a strong blaze.

Fire Chief Christopher Russo said firefighters arrived at 28 Berkley Road around 2 p.m. The home was under renovation and unoccupied, he said.

Departments from Hingham, Scituate, Norwell, Marshfield and Cohasset responded to provide mutual aid, according to Russo.

Russo told the Herald that one of the mutual aid firefighters fell from the first floor to the basement while working on the fire but managed to avoid injury.

There is “extensive damage” to the home, the chief said. Firefighters were at the scene for about three and a half hours before the fire was out.

Russo called it a “good operation for the conditions,” describing the snow and the cold as “formidable,” especially on narrow side streets with large buildings relatively close together.

He commended the firefighters for preventing damage to nearby residences who “did a tremendous job.”
