KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Firefighters rescued a person from a roof after a house fire damaged neighboring houses and a detached garage on Sunday morning in Kansas City, a fire department spokesman said.

Firefighters responded around 8 a.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of East 27th Street, said Battalion Chief Riley Nolan of the Kansas City Fire Department.

Arriving crews reported that the fire had already engulfed the second floor of a vacant, two-story house and began an offensive attack on the blaze, Nolan said.

No one was injured, though firefighters rescued one person from the roof. Emergency medical workers evaluated the person and released them at the scene.

The fire also damaged two neighboring houses and a detached garage. Firefighters used multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire. Crews brought the fire under control around 8:45 a.m.

The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire. The fire department requested Kansas City’s dangerous buildings and city planning offices to respond to the scene of the fire.

Police say a coordinated, all-hands effort led to the arrest of a convicted felon charged with killing Bridgeport Firefighter Terrence Cramer
