PETA’s exposés revealed workers in South Africa—the world’s top mohair producer—roughly handling goats:
Some shearers lifted goats off the floor by the tail, likely breaking it at the spine:
When one goat struggled, the shearer sat on her:
Workers threw goats.
They also cut goats’ throats.
The mohair industry kills angora goats once they’re no longer profitable—often years before their natural life expectancy.
Because shearers are paid by volume, not by the hour, they rush through the job, leaving the goats cut up and bleeding:
Goat kids, who were being shorn for the first time, cried out in fear.
Workers mutilated goats’ ears with pliers that punched sharp needles through them, causing intense pain. One farmer said the goats “scream terribly.”
This is mohair. And this is why so many brands have banned it.
