GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. — A Gloversville man arrested earlier this month in connection with a pursuit that damaged patrol cars has been arrested again, this time accused of stealing a Gloversville Fire Department fire truck Wednesday morning, police said.

Police soon recovered the truck undamaged next door in the Gloversville City Hall parking lot, police said.

At the time it was stolen, the fire truck, Unit 511, had been parked in front of the Fire Department, police said. The truck is valued at approximately $500,000.

Arrested was Steven G. Horton, 30, of Gloversville. He now faces one count of second-degree grand larceny, second-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, police said.

The incident began shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police then received a call from the fire department related to a stolen fire truck, police said.

Officers then soon learned that the person who had stolen the truck had driven it into the City Hall parking lot, situated between City Hall and the Fire Department, police said.

Officers, with assistance from firefighters, then were able to take the suspect into custody after a brief struggle, police said.

At the time it was stolen, the fire truck, Unit 511, had been parked in front of the Fire Department, police said. The truck is valued at approximately $500,000, police said.

Horton was arraigned and ordered held on $15,000 bail. He remained in custody Thursday morning.

Horton was previously arrested Sept. 9, accused in a pursuit started by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office and included Johnstown Police and Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies.

In that case, Horton was accused of attempting to strike a sheriff's patrol car, then an uninvolved motorist. He was only stopped after Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies successfully used a device to deflate his tires.

Authorities said then they believed he was also impaired by drugs.

Horton was charged in that case with three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and one count of third-degree criminal mischief, felonies, and misdemeanor unlawfully fleeing a police officer. He was issued an appearance ticket in that case and released to appear in court later.
