A new day full of new experiences awaits us. We plan to explore the northern part of Mindelo. Starting from the Blue Marlin Hotel, we walk along Alto São Nicolau to Av. Dr. Alberto Leite, where we turn onto Rua Doutor Vicente Rendall Leite. We pass by some very beautiful, modern, and colorful houses and walk past the Igreja Católica. Via Avenida Marginal, we finally reach Praia da Laginha, one of Mindelo’s most beautiful beaches. Here, you can eat and relax at the Caravela Mindelo and the Kalimba Beach Club by Oásis Atlântico. The Four Points by Sheraton São Vicente Resort also invites you to stay the night and dine. Here, too, you’ll find the fine Sahara sand and clear water that make a visit so enjoyable. The view of the Ilhéu dos Pássaros lighthouse with its long staircase and the bay of Mindelo invites you to dream. Jet skiers provide entertainment from time to time. To the south of the beach lies the hill with the Fortim do Rei. On the steep slopes, excavation work is once again underway to make room for the next hotel. There is also a small monument there: the Turtle Sculpture with Trash Remnants—a turtle with trash on its shell. It is meant to promote nature conservation and raise awareness about the consequences of marine debris. The port warehouses are painted with fantastic graffiti on their south-facing walls. Of course, there’s also a portrait of Cesária Évora, Cape Verde’s most famous artist. The modern port, as well as the Oril Hotel and the new university building, which is still under construction, bear witness to the economic boom and active construction activity on the Cape Verdean islands, especially on São Vicente, Boa Vista, and the main island of Santiago. The Cultural Center of Mindelo dates back to the colonial era and is currently undergoing a complete renovation. There are rumors that it was once a slave market. However, we have not found any confirmation of this. We stop at the Marina Mindelo Floating Bar to enjoy a caipirinha. Here they also serve the original Brazilian caipirinha with cachaça. It’s nice when Ursula chats with the employee Soraia and shows her a short video of the Mandinga parade from the day before. Soraia immediately recognizes her colleague, Sheila, who participated in it. She points out the relevant scenes right away. Sheila is, of course, very happy about this. In the early evening, we visit the restaurant, Le Goût de Grills. From the second floor of the building, you have a magnificent view of the bay, especially at sunset. The menu features local specialties at reasonable prices. We take a few photos while the restaurant is still fairly empty. That’s because we’ve arrived very early for dinner. If you want to dine there after 7 p.m., it's advisable to reserve a table, as the restaurant is popular with both locals and tourists. We came back a second time, and the place was packed. A delicious banana flambéed with Grogue, the traditional high-proof sugarcane schnapps, rounds out the excellent meal. ........ weitere Infos im Reisevideoblog: https://blog.myvideomedia.com/de/ music by Johannes Kayser: https://blog.myvideomedia.com/de/spaziergang-durch-den-noerdlichen-teil-von-mindelo/
