A major magnitude 6.5 earthquake just struck a portion of Norway, and now one of the few volcanoes in the country has a chance of soon erupting. This might occur at the Beerenberg volcano on Jan Mayen, which is a heavily glaciated island. Today's video will discuss why this earthquake occurred, the geologic setting, and why a tectonic quake has a small chance of soon triggering an eruption of the Beerenberg volcano. Note that by far the most likely outcome is no volcanic eruption occurring at the Beerenberg volcano.
