PHILCHITEX 2026 Drives Stronger Tourism Partnerships Between the Philippines and China

The Philippines continues to strengthen its position as one of Asia’s fastest-growing travel destinations, particularly for the Chinese outbound tourism market. A significant milestone came with the successful staging of the Philippine China Travel Exchange (PHILCHITEX) 2026, which generated an estimated PHP 133.2 million in sales leads while reinforcing strategic partnerships between Philippine tourism businesses and Chinese travel stakeholders.

Organized by the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines in partnership with Philippine Airlines, PHILCHITEX 2026 took place from June 24 to 27, 2026. The four-day travel exchange gathered 30 leading Chinese travel operators alongside Philippine tourism stakeholders, creating valuable opportunities for business networking, destination promotion, and immersive travel experiences.

The event reflects the country’s continuing efforts to rebuild international tourism, restore traveler confidence, and attract more visitors from one of the world’s largest outbound travel markets.

Business Matching That Creates Long-Term Tourism Growth

PHILCHITEX 2026 offered much more than traditional business meetings. It served as a strategic platform where tourism professionals from both countries explored new opportunities to increase visitor arrivals, improve air connectivity, develop attractive travel packages, and promote multi-destination itineraries throughout the Philippines.

The event officially opened with a business-to-business (B2B) networking session at Solaire Resort Entertainment City in Parañaque. Hotels, resorts, airlines, tour operators, destination marketing organizations, and travel agencies met with Chinese travel buyers to discuss future collaborations and strengthen confidence in the Philippine tourism industry.

According to TPB Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, PHILCHITEX is focused on creating lasting relationships that support sustainable tourism growth while opening new opportunities for cooperation between the Philippines and China.

Chinese Buyers Experience Boracay and Cebu Firsthand

To better understand the Philippine tourism experience, participating Chinese travel buyers joined immersive familiarization tours to Boracay and Cebu, two of the country’s most iconic destinations.

The delegates explored pristine white-sand beaches, luxury resorts, heritage attractions, local cuisine, and cultural experiences while connecting directly with regional tourism businesses.

These firsthand experiences allow international travel operators to confidently recommend Philippine destinations to their clients and develop new travel packages that showcase the country’s diverse attractions.

Beyond the breathtaking landscapes, visitors also experienced the genuine warmth and hospitality that have long been recognized as defining qualities of Filipino tourism.

Safe, Convenient, and Welcoming Travel

Traveler safety continues to play a major role in destination selection.

Recent travel sentiment studies indicate that safety remains the top priority for Chinese outbound travelers, making it an important focus for the Philippine tourism industry.

The Tourism Promotions Board reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring every visitor enjoys a safe, seamless, convenient, and rewarding travel experience from arrival to departure.

Continuous improvements in tourism infrastructure, visitor services, and accessibility are expected to further strengthen confidence among international travelers.

Chinese Tourist Arrivals Continue Their Strong Recovery

China remains one of the Philippines’ most valuable tourism markets.

Between January 1 and July 1, 2026, the Philippines welcomed 221,747 Chinese visitors, representing an impressive 64.08% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

A key driver behind this growth is the 14-day visa-free entry program, introduced in January 2026 for eligible Chinese nationals traveling for tourism and business purposes.

The program currently allows arrivals through Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Metro Manila and Mactan-Cebu International Airport, making travel to the Philippines more accessible than ever.

Expanded Direct Flights Improve Accessibility

Travel between China and the Philippines has become even more convenient with the launch of several new direct international routes.

Travelers can now fly directly from Chongqing, Hangzhou, and Changsha to Manila, while visitors from Fujian have direct access to Cebu.

With flight times averaging only three to four hours, the Philippines has become an attractive destination for weekend getaways, beach vacations, family holidays, and business travel.

Expanded air connectivity also benefits local tourism businesses by opening more gateways to world-class destinations across the archipelago.

The Philippines Strengthens Its Position in the Chinese Travel Market

The success of PHILCHITEX 2026 demonstrates the Philippines’ commitment to building stronger international tourism partnerships and promoting its diverse destinations to one of Asia’s largest outbound travel markets.

Supported by visa-friendly policies, expanding flight networks, strategic industry collaborations, and growing traveler confidence, the Philippines is well-positioned to welcome even more Chinese visitors in the years ahead.

Whether travelers seek world-famous beaches, vibrant cities, cultural heritage, diving adventures, or luxury island escapes, the Philippines continues to offer unforgettable experiences that keep visitors coming back.
