On December 5th, a shallow magma intrusion occurred at France's Piton de la Fournaise volcano on the populated island of Reunion off of eastern Madagascar. While this intrusion failed, it signifies that significant pressure exists in its shallow magma chamber. As a result, more magma intrusions have an increased chance of occurring in the next month which could end up producing a new volcanic eruption.
