A Sky News investigation has found that 38-year-old Marian Cumpanasoiu was given a Home Office voluntary return form in 2024 while in custody awaiting trial for rape. That was halted when it was realised that he was awaiting trial. But just a few months later his EU pre-settled status was renewed automatically. Cumpanasoiu was last month jailed for more than 20 years for 10 rapes and is expected to be deported at the end of his sentence.
