On September 24, at 11:27 p.m., #FairfaxsBravest responded to a house fire at the intersection of Fordson Road and Douglas Street in the Mount Vernon area. Multiple callers reported heavy fire and black smoke with flames through the roof. Units arrived to find a two-story, single-family home with heavy fire on both floors. No occupants were home at the time of the fire.
After initial crews attempted to make entry, operations shifted to an exterior attack due to heavy fire conditions and a partial collapse of the second floor and front porch.
Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines to knock down the fire, protected a neighboring home, and cooled a fuel oil tank at the rear of the structure.
A second alarm was requested to support operations. All visible fire has been knocked down and units remain on scene completing salvage and overhaul operations.
There are no reports of civilian or firefighter injuries.
Fire investigators are on scene working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
