In Spain's Canary Islands, on an island home to 950,000 people, uplift was recently detected at the towering Teide volcano. This has occurred alongside an increased rate of earthquakes and earthquake swarms, although the increase is not substantial. These earthquakes have largely been centered between 8 and 12 kilometers depth beneath a portion of the Teide volcano on Tenerife Island. This video discusses one interpretation of what this swarm could be caused by via a geologist. Yes, Tenerife island and even the Teide volcano are still completely safe to visit!
