Severe flooding has hit Bangkok after nearly 48 hours of torrential rain. Nearly 300 millimeters of rain fell across the capital during this period. Min Buri and Khlong Sam Wa recorded 274.5 and 273 millimeters of rainfall respectively. Overflowing canals could not handle the huge volume of water, quickly flooding streets. Water levels exceeded one meter on some roads, while many cars were submerged. The flooding severely disrupted traffic and inundated shops, restaurants, and homes. Around 4,200 people have already moved into temporary shelters. More than 200 temporary evacuation centers have opened across Bangkok. All 50 districts of the capital have been declared disaster zones because of the flooding. Across Thailand, flooding has affected more than 84,000 people in 21 provinces. City crews continue evacuating residents, pumping out water, and restoring traffic.
