It’s Tuesday, and the highlight of the carnival in Mindelo is about to begin. Two groups organized the parade, which features enthusiastic participants, fantastic costumes, stirring music, and imaginatively designed floats. These groups are “Flores do Mindelo” and “Cruzeiros do Norte.” In the late afternoon, the first people begin to gather on Rua de Liberdade d’Africa. In small groups, they draw attention to various issues, such as environmental protection or emigration. The camera crews take their positions, and RTC reporters conduct the first interviews. Meanwhile, on Avenida Marginal, the parade floats are gathering, and the first participants are appearing in their imaginative costumes. At 8:00 p.m., the highlight of the Mindelo carnival kicks off with fireworks. The themes of many of the floats and the people accompanying them seem to refer to the history of the islands. They show how people used to live and work. For two and a half hours, a steady downpour of impressions rains down on us, fascinating us. Der Umzug wird von zwei Gruppen gestaltet und zeichnet sich durch engagierte Menschen, fantastische Kostüme, emotionale Musik und fantasievoll kreierte Wagen aus. Es sind dies „Flores do Mindelo” und „Cruzeiros do Norte”. Am späten Nachmittag beginnen sich die ersten Personen in der Rua de Liberdade d’Africa zu versammeln. In kleinen Gruppen machen sie auf verschiedene Probleme aufmerksam, z. B. auf Umweltschutz oder Emigration. Die Kameraleute nehmen ihre Positionen ein und die Reporter von RTC führen die ersten Interviews. In der Avenida Marginal versammeln sich derweil die Umzugswagen und die ersten Personen zeigen sich in ihren fantasiereichen Kostümen. Um 20:00 Uhr startet mit einem Feuerwerk der Höhepunkt des Karnevals. Die Themen vieler Wagen und der begleitenden Personen scheinen sich auf die Geschichte der Inseln zu beziehen. Sie zeigen, wie die Menschen früher gelebt und gearbeitet haben. Zweieinhalb Stunden dauert der Dauerregen an Eindrücken die auf uns herab prasseln und uns faszinieren. Dazu kommt die einprägsame Musik, die noch lange nachklingt.
