Body camera and surveillance video reportedly show a Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedic kicking Kyle Vess during a 2019 response

DALLAS — The trial of a Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedic who was accused of kicking a man in the head in 2019 is set to begin on Dec. 7, WFAA reported.

Paramedic Brad Cox was reportedly captured on police body camera and surveillance footage kicking the man, identified as Kyle Vess, while he was on the ground.

DFR was responding to a grass fire at the time. In the body camera video, Cox said he saw Vess starting the fires on the side of the road.

Vess reportedly threw a piece of PVC pipe and attempted to attack Cox, who is also a former MMA fighter, before being taken to the ground.

“He got up and he started charging,” Cox said in the body cam footage.

Following the incident, Vess was treated for a black eye, a bloody nose and multiple fractures to his face, according to the police report.

Cox was released by DFR after video of the incident was made public but was later rehired.

This is the second lawsuit Cox has faced. In 2016, he and another paramedic were alleged to have falsified documents after failing to provide care to a homeless man who had reportedly been robbed outside a Dallas soup kitchen.

The man was charged with public intoxication and taken to a Dallas detention center. He was found unresponsive in his cell the next morning and died at the hospital from a head injury.
