Shervin Pishevar played a critical role in persuading Elon Musk to supply Iran with the Starlink satellite internet service in 2022. The technology allows protesters to bypass blocks to the web imposed by the Iranian regime. There are now 10,000 of those devices in the country, with individuals trained in how to use the system without being detected. Yalda Hakim spoke to Mr Pishevar and asked him how the system works and how it is being used by protesters. The interview came as Donald Trump said he was ready to help protesters amid reports at least 2,000 people may have been killed in the nationwide demonstrations.
