Two firefighters were injured in a flash fire involving a dust collector at Columbine High School

LITLETON, Colo. — A fire in a woodshop classroom at Columbine High School on Wednesday forced students to evacuate and canceled classes for the day after flames extended into the ventilation system, South Metro Fire Rescue officials said.

Two firefighters had minor injuries after a fire in the classroom’s exterior wood dust collector turned into a flash fire, South Metro said in a post on X.

UPDATE 3: Two firefighters are being evaluated on scene for minor injuries. Some students are also being evaluated for medical needs. Units are wrapping up overhaul and ventilating the high school. The fire was reported at 10:47 a.m. and was under control as of 11:13 a.m.

Students were evacuated from the school and several were evaluated for unspecified medical needs. The school was closed for the rest of the day.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
