NEW YORK — Two people were killed and 11 hurt when a massive fire tore through a Bronx apartment building on Tuesday, officials said.
The fatal blaze, on E. 187th St. near Belmont Ave. in Belmont , began around 1:30 p.m. and quickly spread to multiple floors at the top of the five-story building, FDNY officials said.
Video of firefighters fighting the inferno saw massive flames shooting out of the top windows onto the roof’s parapet.
The massive blaze quickly led to a fifth alarm, bringing more than 200 firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics to the scene.
Eleven people, including five firefighters, were injured and treated. It was not immediately clear how many were hospitalized.
The fire remained ongoing as of 3:45 p.m.
Its cause was under investigation.
