NEW YORK — A massive five-alarm fire tore through a Bronx deli and the apartments above it early Monday, drawing Mayor Mamdani to the scene on his fifth day in office.

The blaze broke out in the building on Findlay Ave. and E. 170th St. in Claremont about 3:15 a.m., officials said. It too firefighters nearly four hours to bring the fire under control.

Mamdani visited the scene and briefed reporters on the blaze.

Firefighters appear to have been hampered by cars parked in front of fire hydrants, ABC 7 New York reported.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Three people, including two firefighters, were hurt, according to Mamdani. Their injuries are believed to be minor.

Some residents who fled their homes were provided temporary shelter in a city bus.

“Thanks to the over 250 first responders who rushed to the scene, the building was evacuated without loss of life,” Mamdani tweeted. “I am grateful to FDNY and all our first responders for their quick response that saved lives and for supporting displaced residents.”
