EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Eau Claire Fire Rescue is mourning the death of Firefighter Bryce Jungbluth, who died after suffering a medical emergency following a shift.

Jungbluth, 27, experienced the medical emergency July 26 shortly after coming off duty, according to the department. He died July 31 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, according to his obituary.

Jungbluth previously served with Carrboro Fire-Rescue before joining Eau Claire Fire Rescue, according to the Carrboro Police Department in North Carolina. The department described him as a friend to many, a loving husband and a loving father.

“He cared deeply about the fire service and approached every shift with a willingness to learn, serve others, and support his fellow firefighters,” Eau Claire Fire Rescue stated.

Firefighters escorted Jungbluth’s remains from Minneapolis through Eau Claire on Aug. 1 before continuing to Hayward. Firefighters and community members gathered along the route to pay their respects.

“The Eau Claire Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to Bryce’s family, friends and all those affected by this tremendous loss,” the department stated.
