On April 29th, one of the hot springs in Yellowstone produced a strong hydrothermal explosion, ejecting multiple large boulders of rock notably beyond its rim. This is not concerning from a volcano perspective but is interesting since recorded hydrothermal explosion footage is still quite rare. Today's video briefly shows you two hydrothermal explosions that occurred during the last week of April 2026. Yellowstone is NOT showing any signs of unrest, and is at a normal alert level (green) (like it has ALWAYS been since the rating system was created). It is still a fun place to visit, just stay out of the closed area near the Black Diamond Pool (along with other closed areas there may be from time to time).
