The case centres on allegations that 20 sample vehicles made by Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot, Citroën (both owned by Stellantis), Renault and Nissan were fitted with devices that reduced emissions during laboratory testing but allowed them to emit significantly higher levels of harmful gases in real-world driving. The case is the largest group litigation trial in the history of England and Wales, representing around 1.6 million UK vehicle owners.
