A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Japan, with the epicenter in southern Ibaraki Prefecture. The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 70 kilometers. The maximum seismic intensity reached lower 5 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale in parts of Ibaraki, Saitama, Chiba, and Tokyo. Tremors were also felt across Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma, Kanagawa, and other parts of eastern Japan. No tsunami warning was issued. So far, there have been no reports of serious damage or injuries, while authorities continue checking the affected areas.
