Over the past week, several provinces across China — including Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Chongqing, and Hainan — experienced severe thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds. Meteorologists recorded intense convective activity that led to short but powerful downpours and local flooding. Hail up to two centimeters in diameter was reported in parts of Hubei and Guizhou, while wind gusts in Hunan and Chongqing exceeded 80–90 kilometers per hour. In Hainan Province, residents observed rotating vortexes resembling weak tornadoes, with wind rotation speeds near the ground reaching 70 kilometers per hour. Radar data confirmed localized air circulation typical of weak EF0-type tornadoes. More than 480 thunderstorm events were recorded nationwide, including over 130 with hail and nine with vortex formations. Meteorologists attribute the widespread storms to the collision of tropical and continental air masses and predict gradual stabilization of weather conditions by late week.
