Thousands of earthquakes occurring in rapid succession indicates the rise of a body of magma to very shallow depths. Yet, right when it appeared that a volcanic eruption was about to begin in Portugal's Azores island chain, the magma intrusion stopped altogether. The day was March 19th 2022, and magma was a mere 65 to 90 minutes away from producing an eruption. So, why didn't it ever erupt? Today's video explains the failed magma intrusion which occurred on Sao Jorge in 2022 through the perspective and analysis of a geologist 4 years later. Note: In my opinion, the failed magma intrusion is not going to ever continue its upward progress or erupt, meaning the island is safe to visit.
